The former home of the man who created the soundtracks to The Sound of Music andOklahoma is on the market for $US4.85 million.
The stunning contemporary house in Connecticut was built in 1965 by composer Richard Rodgers, who famously collaborated with theatrical director Oscar Hammerstein.

Current owners Barbara and Serge Vinograd have extensively renovated the property, which they bought for $US2.05 million in 1999.
While the pair spent millions of dollars redoing the bathroom, kitchen and pool area, they kept the footprint of the home intact, and even made sure that their piano was in the same spot as Rodgers’ piano.

Aware that the property was built and lived in by the famous composer, the Vinograds even purchased a book about the home written by Rodgers’ decorator wife Dorothy.
Published in 1967, House in my Head is the story of how Dorothy, a well-known hostess of the era, built her dream home at the Connecticut address.
“Dorothy Rogers had been curating ideas for her perfect house throughout the years and that shows in the design of the finished product: The uniqueness of the design, the glass walls opening onto the stunning landscape, every room filled with light, and high ceilings,” Barbara Vinograd told realestate.com.au.
“You can’t help but feel the love and passion that she had for this home. It comes through every page. Reading about how she put her heart and soul into this property – and seeing it through pictures from the time – made clear to us how special the home was to her and also that it was a home with serious and unique history.”
The 741sqm house is set at the foot of a long scenic driveway, which winds through the three hectares of park-like grounds.
The six bedrooms all have ensuite bathrooms and open directly onto the stunning estate.
Floor-to-glass walls in many of the rooms blend the lines between indoors and outdoors.
The kitchen features two massive marble island bench tops and ample seating for the avid cooking family.
Stone terraces wrap around the home providing multiple ares to take in the sweeping lawns, stone walls and luxurious pool area.
Barbara is a real estate agent for Coldwell & Banker and has listed the property with the agency.
