5 places to buy to be near Game of Thrones

Season 6 of HBO’s epic drama Game of Thrones has finished and millions of fans worldwide are suddenly without their weekly fix of life in Westeros.
It’s a long wait between seasons, and while we live in hope that creator George RR Martin releases his long-awaited next instalment in the saga, The Winds of Winter, we won’t see Dany, Tyrion and the dashing Jon Snow on our TV screens again until April 2017.
If you can’t wait that long, production on season 7 is set to start in July and ardent Thrones fans could zero in on the various locations for filming in the hope of spotting a Tyrell, Lannister or Stark.
Or you could go one step further and buy a property at one of the key filming locations in Europe. Here’s a few ideas to get you started:

1. Dubrovnik, Croatia

The Croatian coastal city of Dubrovnik is used as the setting for King’s Landing, the capital of Westeros. The medieval walls of Dubrovnik are a UNESCO world heritage site, so it’s no wonder the show’s producers picked it as a key location.

You can check out the main street of Dubrovnik – the Stradun – where Cersei did her walk of shame, Gradac Park (site of the Purple Wedding) or Belvedere Atrium, where The Mountain memorably defeated Oberyn Martell.
Cersei did blow up the Sept of Baelor, but there’s sure to be lots happening in King’s Landing in season 7, as she takes control of the capital.

If you want to set up right in the middle of the action, this property in Old Town is ideal. It’s actually two houses, with up to six bedrooms and even has its own chapel, one of the city’s earliest, called the Chapel of St Vitrus.
It’s just a few minutes from the Stradun and offers stunning views over Old Town and the ocean.

2. Belfast, Northern Ireland

Belfast is the home base of the Game of Thrones production, with many of the show’s large sets housed at Paint Hall studio, in the city’s Titanic Quarter (the area where parts of the HMS Titanic were built).
According to the Game of Thrones Wiki, Paint Hall houses interior sets for Winterfell, Castle Black, The Eyrie, the Great Sept of Baelor and Daenerys’ throne room in the Great Pyramid of Meereen. The iconic Iron Throne is also housed there.

3. County Down, Northern Ireland

Old Castle Ward, in County Down, is one of the main filming locations for the entire series. It has been used as a location for most of the Winterfell exterior shots. Many other places in County Down have featured in the series, including recent scenes of Riverrun from season 6.

4. Akureyri, Iceland

The White Walkers will no doubt continue their march southward in season 7 and the backdrop for many of the icy landscapes beyond The Wall have been filmed in Iceland.

Lake Myvatn, which is near the town of Akureyri, is where Mance Rayder’s wildlings were encamped in season 3, but other Icelandic glaciers have been used for filming.
If you long for the doomed romance of Jon Snow and Ygritte, the Grjotagja cave is the cave and thermal pool where Jon and Ygritte have their passionate fling.

5. Canary Islands, Spain

The Canary Islands are reportedly being scouted by Game of Thrones producers for filming of seasons 7 and 8, according to fan site Watchers on the Wall.
The site reports that producers have been in negotiations with the local film commission and have been impressed with various locations, including Teide National Park, which is home to Spain’s highest mountain.
